VRML, Graphics and Games
Kirk Parsons, Pres, Attic Graphics
Monday, April 15, CC324, 11am
While the first version of VRML was announced just one year ago, VRML has moved forward more rapidly than most would have guessed. Many problems with the VRML standard still remain, and at this stage, the computer game industry, the primary consumer of 3D graphics technology on PC/Mac platforms, is reluctant to adopt the VRML standard.
The talk will discuss such issues as VRML's current state, what improvements it would need to be adopted by the computer game industry, and whether it is possible for the standard to be adopted by the game industry at all. We will also discuss the market for 3D graphics and the new possibilities for non-game 3D products on the PC.
There may also be comments on the Computer Game Developers
Conference last week.
Note The following Monday, Dr Chandrasekhar Narayanaswami of IBM is scheduled.
