PostDoc/Visiting Scholar Openings
Position in Computer
Vision:
A postdoctoral research associate is available immediately
with the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (ISL) at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI),
Position in Probabilistic
Graphical Models:
The Intelligent Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical, Computer,
and Systems Engineering at RPI is seeking a post-doctorate associate with
background and expertise in graphical models including Bayesian Networks. We
are especially interested in candidates with significant experience in
theoretical developments of graphical models such as learning and inference. Specifically, I am interested in
parameter/structure learning for graphical models. One specific area we are
working on now is to combine training data and qualitative knowledge for
learning model parameters. Another area
I am interested in is performing efficient inference. Yet another area is to produce a unified
graphical model based on combining directed graphical models with undirected graphical
models through a factor graph. . For
application, I am interested in innovative and creative application of
graphical models to computer vision, human computer interaction, and situation
awareness applications. Currently, we have applied GMs to image segmentation,
object tracking, object recognition, human state modeling and recognition, human
activity recognition, and high level information fusion for situation awareness.
Besides research areas, I also expect a postdoc
to be independent, highly motivated, to be able to produce quality
publications, and to assist me with student supervision and proposal
preparation. In addition, I also expect
the postdoc to interact actively with my students and
with people in other fields in order to apply the graphical model theories to
different fields. Strong and solid mathematical (especially
in optimization) and statistical background and excellent programming skills
are also essential. The positions are available
immediately.
