Here are some solicitations and planning documents I wrote while at NSF from 2000 to 2003, and some advice to aspiring PIs (Principal Investigators).

  1. WR Franklin, B Mann & D Cochran, Computational Algorithms and Representations for Geometric Objects (CARGO), FY02, NSF01-111, FY03, NSF02-155) solicitations, joint with NSF/CISE/CCR, NSF/MPS/DMS and DARPA/DSO.
  2. D Cochran & W. Randolph Franklin, GeoSpatial Terrain Analysis and Representations (Geo*), DARPA/DSO Future Area of Interest, 2002.
  3. Wm Randolph Franklin, Computational and Geometric Cartography, March 2001.
Abstract: This document is a vision statement for future research in computational and geometric cartography. This is one component of the new NSF/DARPA joint solicitation in Computational Algorithms and Representations for Geometric Objects (CARGO). Other components include computational topology and computer aided design.
  4. Proposal Writers Cheat Sheet, Aug 2002. This contains advice on writing better proposals to NSF, based on my term as a Program Director.
