Driving to RPI from Mass

  1. Take I-90 West.
  2. After crossing into NYS, take the third exit, #B-1. Here, I-90 branches off, while the I-90 Berkshire Bypass continues straight. There should be a sign to Albany there.
  3. After cresting a hill, and crossing hi above the Hudson R, exit to I-787 north.
  4. Take I-787 North to the exit for "Rt. 7 East, Troy-Bennington". Follow signs for Rt. 7, Hoosick Street. This goes east, back over the Hudson R. You don't change direction, but have to change lanes and merge left a few times.
    (Note to Street Atlas 5 users: this exit is drawn wrong.)
  5. Continue up the hill, east, on Hoosick St. At the 4th traffic light (about 1/2 mile), turn right (south) onto 15th Street. There might be a sign before the intersection pointing to RPI. This is also the first street after a strip mall, the Troy Plaza, on the right.
  6. Continue south for about a mile, on 15th Street, through the 3rd traffic light. The entrance to the Visitors Information Center is on the left immediately past a pedestrian overpass. Visitors' parking is adjacent to the VIC.
    (Note to Street Atlas 5 users: ignore the marked location for RPI, which is on the far side of the campus.)
  7. In the VIC, get a campus map, and ask for directions to the Jonsson Engineering Center (JEC).
  8. There are also parking meters in most reserved parking lots.
  9. After hours, you may park freely in any slot in any reserved lot. However, never park in the spaces reserved for RPI maintenance vehicles, in the handicapped slots (w/o a permit), or in the no-parking zones.
