IEEE Workshop on Motion and Video Computing (WMVC)

January 8-9, 2008, Copper Mountain, Colorado

Sponsored by IEEE PAMI  and to be held in conjunction with IEEE Workshop on Application of Computer Vision (WACV)

With the ubiquitous presence and availability of video data and its increasing importance in many applications including security, television, entertainment, and Internet, it becomes increasingly important to perform image analysis and understanding from the video imagery.    Following the success of its predecessors, this workshop is aimed at providing a forum for computer vision researchers to share and demonstrate their latest research in motion, video analysis, video computing and related areas, and to explore future directions and applications in video and motion analysis.    Like the previous workshops on motion and video analysis, this workshop’s program will feature high quality double-blind reviewed papers and posters, invited talks, panel discussions, and demonstrations.   The theme of this workshop will be video data interpretation and understanding. While papers addressing the traditional topics such as optical flow estimation, segmentation, structure from motion, and motion estimation will continue to be solicited, they must clearly demonstrate how they advance the state of the art with quantitative comparisons with existing methods. For this workshop, we especially welcome papers addressing the issue of video analysis for interpretation and understanding.  Article submissions are sought on novel advances to state of the art in the areas of (not limited to):

§                Distributed multi-sensor and multitarget

       detection and tracking

§                Human activity recognition

§                Gesture and Gait analysis recognition

§                Performance evaluation of video

        understanding systems

§                Video activity modeling and recognition

       using graphical models

§                     Video retrieval

§                     Video for surveillance and

       biometrics

§                     Video event detection and

        recognition

§                     Extraction of Semantics from

       Video
