Kevin Kornegay
Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Cornell University
Education:
Ph.D., Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University
of California at Berkeley, 1992
M.S., Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University
of California at Berkeley, 1990
B.E.E., Pratt Institute, 1985
Career Highlights:
Kornegay began his professional career as a technical staff
member at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, N.J.
from 1983 to 1987. After completing masters and doctoral degrees,
he spent two years as a research staff member at the IBM Thomas
J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. In 1994,
he joined the faculty at Purdue, where he served as an assistant
professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering
for three years. In 1997, Professor Kornegay was named the
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting Professor Electrical
Engineering & Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. A year later, he joined the faculty in the
School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University,
where he holds the rank of associate professor.
Kornegay currently serves on the technical
program committees of the International Microwave Symposium,
the Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits Symposium, Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Sensors, the
Great Lakes Symposium on VLSI [Very Large-Scale Integration],
and the International Symposium on Low Power Electronic Design.
He is an editor of IEEE Electron Device Letters and
the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Science
Foundation CAREER Award, an IBM Faculty Partnership Award,
the National Semiconductor Faculty Development Award, and
the General Motors Faculty Fellowship Award. In 2001, he was
given the Black Engineer of the Year Award, an honor presented
by the publisher of "U.S. Black Engineer and Information
Technology," the Council of Engineering Deans of Historically
Black Colleges and Universities; Lockheed Martin; and DaimlerChrysler.
He also was selected as a participant in the National Academy
of Engineering 1999 Frontiers of Engineering Symposium and
2002 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium. He
is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society,
a member of the ETA KAPPA NU, TAU BETA PI, a senior member
of the IEEE, as well as a member of the Electron Devices Society
Education Activities Advisory Committee. In 2002, he began
a two-year appointment as a member of the Defense Science
Study Group.
Research Areas:
Kornegay's research interests include microelectrical mechanical
systems (MEMs) and integrated systems for harsh environments,
analog/mixed-signal IC design, radio frequency integrated
circuits (RFIC) design, very large scale integration (VLSI)
design, smart power electronics, high performance clocking,
wide band gap semiconductors, and heterogeneous system integration.
The National Science Foundation (NSF), Defense Advanced Research
Projects agency (DARPA), NASA Glenn Research Center, NYSTAR,
Agilent, Cascade-Microtech, IBM, and Cadence fund his research.
In 2000, he was instrumental in founding the Cornell Broadband
Communications Research Laboratory (CBCRL) which is a research
effort involving Agilent, Cadence, Cascade-Microtech, and
IBM Microelectronics to address issues related to the design
of single chip wireless and wireline devices using SiGe BiCMOS
technology.
