The NPN BJT Gummel plot is the common-emitter transfer characteristics of the BJT in the forward active regime. The measurement configuration is shown in the above figure. The collector-emitter voltage, Vce, is kept at a constant bias. The collector current, Ic, and base current, Ib, versus the base-emitter voltage, Vbe, are measured. The Gummel plot is a semilog plot of Ic and Ib (logarithmic scale) vs. Vbe (linear scale). Users can use AIM-Spice to fit the experimental data and extract device parameters.
The experimental parameters to be entered in the Source Setup pop-up panel include the start, stop, and number of steps for the sweep. You may also set the current compliance for protection. The collector-emitter voltage, Vce, should not be set too high to reach the breakdown voltage.
