  1. May, 2008, Yan Tong won the 2008 Allen B. DuMont Prize. The prize is given to an RPI EE major graduate "who made a substantial contribution to his/her field of study". This is the second time an ISL student won this prize.

  2. April, 2008, Three new students will join ISL in this fall. They are Geng Li from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zuoguan Wang from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Yu Wang from Xiamen University.

  3. December, 2007, Yan Tong successfully passed her Ph.D final exam and she will join GE global research as a research scientist.

  4. April, 2007, Zhi Zeng and Sriram Mannar will join ISL this fall as Ph.D students. Sriram received his MS degree from IIT Kanpur and Zhi received his MS from Tsinghua University.

  5. January, 2007, RPI ISL Image Databases Available. The database site includes descriptions of some of the image databases we have constructed over the years. In addition, it includes links to and descriptions about others' databases.

  6. January, 2007, Wenhui joined Thomson Corporation in Minnesota as a researcher.

  7. December, 2006, Wenhhui Liao successfully defended her Ph.D dissertation. Congratulations to her !.

  8. Sept., 2006, Dr. Ji is a co-char of the First International Workshop on Video Processing and Recognition.

  9. May, 2006, Zhiwei Zhu won the Allen Dumont prize, which is awarded to an electrical engineering graduate student who has demonstrated high scholastic ability and has made a substantial contribution to that field.

  10. April, 2006, Wenhui Liao's paper titled " Efficient Active Fusion for Decision-making via VOI Approximation" has been accepted as an oral presentation by the Twenty-First National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-06). AAAI is the top AI conference. This is Wenhui's second AAAI paper.

  11. April, 2006, Dr. Ji won the research excellence award from school of engineering at RPI.

  12. April, 2006, Jixu Chen and Zheng Xue, both from the University of Science and Technology of China(USTC), will join ISL as Ph.D student in the fall.

  13. March, 2006, Dr. Ji joined the editorial board of the Journal of Image and Vision Computing.

  14. February, 2006, six papers from our lab. are accepted by this year's International Conference on computer Vision (CVPR) in New York city. CVPR is the top computer vision conference.

  15. December, 2005, three ISL members, Ming Jiang, Peng Wang, and Zhiwei Zhu successfully passed their Ph.D defense. They all found good jobs. Ming will join KLA Tencor in California as a senior algorithm developer, Peng will become a post-doctor at the University of Pennsylvania , and Zhiwei will join Sarnoff in Princeton, NJ as a member of the technical staff. Congratulations to all of them and best wish for their new endeavors. !.

  16. June 21, 2005, our paper, Automatic Eye Detection and Its Validation , won the Best Novel Experiment Award at 2005 IEEE Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshop on Face Recognition Grand Challenge Experiments.

  17. June 1, 2005, our paper, Real-Time Non-intrusive Monitoring and Prediction of Driver Fatigue , published in 2004 IEEE Transactions Vehicular Technology, has been selected as the best Land Transportation award for the year of 2004 by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society.

  18. April 29, 2005, two papers from our lab were accepted into AAAI-05. The first paper is A Decision Theoretic Model for Stress Recognition and User Assistance by Wenhui Liao, Weihong Zhang, Qiang Ji, and Zhiwei Zhu. The second paper is Sensor Selection for Active Information Fusion by Yongmian Zhang and Qiang Ji.

  19. February, 2005. three papers from our lab were accepted into CVPR05. The three papers are: 1) Eye Gaze Tracking Under Natural Head Movements by Z. Zhu and Q. Ji, 2) Learn Discriminant Features for Multi-View Face and Eye Detection, by P. Wang and Q. Ji, and 3) A Dynamic Conditional Random Field Model for Object Segmentation in Image Sequences, by Y. Wang and Q. Ji.
