ECSE Faculty Receive Awards at 2021 Commencement

Professor Ali Tajer was presented with the 2021 James M. Tien ’66 Early CAREER Award and Grant for Faculty and Professor Shayla Sawyer was presented with the 2020 Trustee’s Outstanding Teacher Award.

ECSE Associate Professor Ali Tajer was presented with the 2021 James M. Tien ’66 Early CAREER Award and Grant for Faculty at the Rensselaer’s 2021 commencement.  This prize in recognition of early career achievement is funded and awarded by the faculty. The recipient, chosen by the Faculty Committee on Honors by nomination of the faculty, must have been on the faculty for a minimum of three years and have a maximum of 10 years of professional experience. The award and grant honors productivity in both teaching and research, with outstanding achievement in one of these areas.

ECSE Associate Professor Shayla Sawyer was presented with the 2020 Trustee’s Outstanding Teacher Award at the Rensselaer’s 2021 commencement.  This award was established in 1994 through the generosity of members of the Board of Trustees, this award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in classroom instruction. Selection is made based on evidence of sustained outstanding teaching as reflected by student evaluations, peer evaluations, and letters of support from colleagues, alumni, and students. Nominations are sought from the Rensselaer community and reviewed by a selection committee, with final selection made by the President. The award is presented by the Board of Trustees.
