The West Sand Lake Elementary School team entered the statewide Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA) competition held April 29, 1998 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY.

On the topic "Painting," the team won the First Place blue ribbon in the Elementary School Division
The project was a Native American cave containing artifacts and painted with petroglyphs.
